Yoga teacher training courses (YTT) are sometimes looked at as a program to take only if you are planning on becoming a teacher however if you find the right yoga teacher training course, it will not only help you deepen your own yoga practice but also help further your journey through self discovery and acceptance.
In our Stasis Yoga Teacher Training course, we strive to develop teachers who can take the tools we teach and expand it outside the walls of the academy to build, strengthen and maintain one’s values, integrity, respect, and discipline in their life as well as inspiring others to do the same. Becoming a yoga teacher allows you the chance to share the practices that have impacted your life, in order to help others. However, at this moment if you decide that you don’t want to be a yoga teacher, taking this program is a big stepping stone to a path of self empowerment, individual growth and expanding your yogic knowledge. In most yoga teacher training courses, you will study pranayama (breathwork), meditation and yoga philosophies (8 limbs of yoga) which can be brought into your daily life, creating a more fulfilled and content life. If you’ve started asking questions about what you are doing in yoga and even in life itself, then a yoga teacher training can help open up new paths for you.
ARE THERE PREREQUISITES TO A YOGA TEACHER TRAINING?
Typically, there are not any prerequisites when taking a yoga teacher training program besides age. Most will require you to be at least 18 years of age while some can start as early as 13 years old. The common recommendation that you’ll get from the majority of yoga studios is that you have about six months of consistent yoga experience prior to a yoga teacher training however this is not mandatory. Here at Stasis, we do recommend that as well, though our yoga teacher training is for all levels. The benefit of having some previous experience will allow you to arrive with a bit of an understanding of what yoga truly has to offer and build off that. What you really need is the desire to want to teach and help others deepen their yoga practice, as well as deepening your own practice.
A COMMON MISCONCEPTION
'You need to be very physically fit.'
This is incorrect. Of course, being physically fit will make the process a bit easier for you especially when it comes to demoing poses to students however, a yoga teacher with excellent cueing, descriptions and walkthroughs can teach a yoga class without demoing one yoga pose. This is why finding the right yoga teacher training is very important. Click here to read more about how to find the right yoga teacher training (YTT) program for you.
